To Binge or Not To Binge?

Binge Watching

Prepare to BINGE!

It started after my husband and I made the decision to cancel cable.

This was something we had been debating over for probably the last year and a half. We were spending too much money on hundreds of channels to never find something really good to watch.

We were over it.

Going through channel after channel only to find… nothing. Even our kids had moved on from tv and the endless days of the Disney channel. Now they watch their favorite YouTubers.

So last fall we canceled cable.

That was that we never looked back!

Don’t get me wrong, we aren’t done with tv. We are just done paying crazy fees for a product that wasn’t worth it.

However, we kept Netflix since it gave us and the kids at the very least some options (I say this very sparingly) for when we found ourselves in the mood to watch something. Even then it was and still is difficult to find something, anything to watch. Question, “Have we become too opinionated with shows we are willing to watch?” To give up our “precious time” versus what, watching our phones… oy!

Who doesn’t like a good or even great show to sink their time into?

I think it was last fall (2016) when my husband came home from work to say his friend (and friends wife) had just finished Damages on Netflix and loved it.

Now, this can be tricky.

Recommendations from anyone about a show to watch/book to read for that matter doesn’t always work out, we’ve all been there let’s be honest!

We had nothing to lose.

Damages – high power attorney Patty Hues (Glenn Close) brings on ambitious protégée Ellen Parsons (Rose Byrne). The on-screen chemistry between the two of them is mind twisting crazy good!

That was it, we were hooked from the first episode.

After finishing Damages we took a small break to detox from our binge addiction.

On to the next series.

The one thing we have found with binge-watching is we can’t settle with a couple episodes (even during the work week) we almost always watch three if not four a night (kicking our kids to their rooms) and then we pay the price when the alarm goes off!

Long gone are the nights of staying up late and feeling fine the next day – age can be such a drag!

So, we added HULU, why not… right?

Good friends of ours had told us, “you have to WATCH Shameless!” The only catch was needing Showtime, thankfully HULU has it as an add-on, at that point, we were all in.

This gave us a whole new meaning of binge-watching… addiction!

I don’t think either my husband or I expected this show to be as insanely good as it is! Granted it’s not going to be for everyone. The title completely speaks volumes for what happens throughout this masterpiece!

As much as I would love to give you even a little taste of what the show’s about, it just wouldn’t give it any justice. The storyline, shooting on location in Chicago, the actors, and the writing… brilliant!

This is just a little list that we’ve either binged or will be soon.

Binged – Clearly Game Of Thrones is at the top of the binge list!

Binged – Ozark

Binged – Deadwood

Binged – Mr. Robot

To binge – Stranger Things

To binge – Narcos

Binged – Homeland

Binged – True Detective (1st Episode only)

What do you think? Better yet, do you binge-watch or would you rather watch one and done?

Either way, I hope you enjoy the countless hours spent binging show after show after show.

P.S. – Don’t forget to hit “pause” for bathroom, snack or beverage break!
