Kitchens make me smile

We renovated our house 2 years ago. I was so excited to design my dream kitchen. We had been living in a beautiful 1940’s 4 square. As much as I loved the historic feel of our house it was way to small. We have 2 children and 2 dogs. We all bumped into each other in the kitchen every time anyone moved. I was ready to get started. I poured through many magazines and Pinterest posts. I finally came up with what I wanted.  I wanted my kitchen to  feel like a New York Deli, clean classic, but a little vintage to fit in with the age of our house. I chose white subway tile with black grout, white cabinets, and searched for a long time to find a granite that looked like marble. We have 2 wild boys so my dreams of marble were not happening.  I have always been in love with old fashioned ranges that look like they belong in restaurants. My 2 favorites are AGA and La Cornue CornuFé StoveWe ended up choosing the classic blackLa Cornue CornuFé Stove.  My Center Island was my favorite piece to design, I found and old photo in a 1940’s colonial that had lots of drawers no seating and beautiful posts on the corners of the island. With that photo my builder and I got to work, I told him how I also have always had a love for Little house on the Prairie. Naughty Nellie had the most fabulous candy shop. I told him my dream would be to add candy drawers to one end of my island.  There you have it! A little creativity can go along way.
